Pandora’s box is an artifact in Greek mythology. The “box” was actually a large jar given to Pandora which contained all the evils of the world. Today the phrase “to open Pandora’s box” means to perform an action that may seem small or innocent, but that turns out to have severely detrimental and far-reaching consequences. In classical Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman on Earth. Zeus ordered Hephaestus to create her. So he did, using water and earth. The gods endowed her with many gifts: Athena clothed her, Aphrodite gave her beauty, Apollo gave her musical ability, and Hermes gave her speech.
Pandora was given a wedding gift of a beautiful jar, with instructions to not open it under any circumstance. Impelled by her curiosity (given to her by the gods), Pandora opened it and all evil contained therein escaped and spread over the earth. She hastened to close the container, but the whole contents had escaped; except for one thing that lay at the bottom – the Spirit of Hope, named Elpis. Pandora, deeply saddened by what she had done, feared she would have to face Zeus’ wrath, since she had failed her duty. However, Zeus did not punish Pandora because he knew this would happen. So, what kind of an asshole is Zeus to allow Evil into the world?
EVIL EXISTS IN THE WORLD. “HOPE” DOES NOT PUT IT “BACK IN THE BOX”. THIS REQUIRES THE ABILITY TO SEE EVIL WHERE IT EXISTS. THEN STRENGTH OF WILL, RUTHLESS DETERMINATION, AND FEARLESS COURAGE TO PUT IT “BACK IN THE BOX”.

Howard Phillips Lovecraft (August 20, 1890 – March 15, 1937) — known as H. P. Lovecraft — was an American author of horror, fantasy and science fiction, especially the subgenre known as weird fiction. Lovecraft’s guiding aesthetic and philosophical principle was what he termed “cosmicism” or “cosmic horror”, the idea that life is incomprehensible to human minds and that the universe is fundamentally inimical to the interests of humankind. As such, his stories express a profound indifference to human beliefs and affairs. Lovecraft is best known for his Cthulhu Mythos story cycle and the Necronomicon, a fictional magical textbook of rites and forbidden lore.
The Cthulhu Mythos is a shared fictional universe. A shared universe is a fictional universe to which more than one writer contributes. Works set in a shared universe share characters and other elements with varying degrees of consistency. Shared universes are contrasted with collaborative writing, in which multiple authors work on a single story. Shared universes are more common in fantasy and science fiction than in other genres.
